The honest appraisal and opinion you have stated is appreciated - not an issue and I'll be happy to explain . Greg calm done= its a valid question and some folks like honest explanations.

Not sure how long you've lurked or been around the grading board side of things but over the last 20 years on these BGS boards we've had numerous threads titled " Recent slabs / pickups". Its always been called " recent slabs / pickups" as a moderator I wanted to actively encourage people to show grading slabs . Having been here since Day 1 and been a BGS submitter since the 1st month I'm one of their oldest customers. And one of their most loyal. While it would be great to "only" show BGS slabs that doesn't promote grading as a whole or further Beckett's goals. We want people to not only post what they have but to use the tools of our marketplace to buy their items, to buy our OPG so they can keep track of their collections, to use our authentication services to have their autos certified and many other Beckett related products to include magazines,supplies ,etc etc etc.

What good would it do if I "only" allow BGS slabs? Would this promote grading ? Would it promote the enjoyment of the hobby and being around a group of like minded people ? No. Grading has always benefited from inviting "participation". What better way to invite "participation" in the BGS registry programs than allowing people to post all sorts of pickups. I have no intention of hammering people for competitors items. It all works in BGS favor as Beckett itself is all about the HOBBY while promoting its company goals.

I prefer my own PC to be mostly made of BGS slabs and while most of my registry's are private I can tell you I am the owner of the 2nd largest BGS registry existent ( behind only a Michael Jordan collector at 28,000 points and well above the Ichiro collector Bruce at 15,000 ) along with nearly 20,000 BGS slabs. With all the slabs I've posted over 20+ years, all the BGS slab contests I participated in, and the 200,000+ slabs I'm personally responsible for having certain dealers submit-- yeah think I've earned the rights of "freedom of expression" that this thread allows

I reserve the right to post any pickup I make whether its PSA or BGS. I've worked hand in hand with Jeromy for years ( and Mark before him) to actively promote BGS at shows, on message boards , industry events, etc, etc, etc. I've done everything as an individual to promote grading and authenticating with BGS related products that I can. I will continue to do so as often as I can short of being arrested for shouting it at the rooftops. I even run a small grading club that assists about a dozen 10 year plus BGS registry people to continue growing their registry stuff while minimizing their personal costs. I am the beta test lead for the new registry and in the next few months will start additional work on strengthening the BGS registry up again. Just hasn't been a priority with Beckett as a company so I promised Jeromy I would take the lead on making it happen.

As for why its been a preponderance of PSA slabs recently in the last 6 months- well it would help if my BGS orders I personally subbed from quite a while ago would return then I could show my standard large level of BGS slabs rather than just a whole smattering of PSA items . This includes a bunch of my own personal grading club stuff along with those items I had helped subbed thru some dealers to help them make their numbers ( still haven't seen some "aggregate" stuff from 2019 is all I'll say). Haven't seen a BGS slab in 2020 with the exception of maybe 10 items. So when they do return I'll be showing off those BGS slabs I have .

If you care to I can open up my Clemens registry for a day and show you the size of it to prove the point . Let me know if that's something you would like to see and I'll make it happen.


I hope that this explanation provides some insight into why all slabs are welcomed to be shown off in this one thread.

Back to enjoying the hobby-- sorry but again more PSA slabs back. Expecting several BGS subs to pop soon so I'll post those also when they arrive.

Some recent slabs back all football from a box I broke with John (jpcz). Decided to send them in and see what happened. The Smith Blue Shimmer # to 10 was going to be a surprise gift to a collector except he died of Covid19-- the only person I personally know who has even gotten sick much less died from it. The Love Green Scope auto # to 75 was going to another collector who does Giants, who then decided I should keep it and resell. So I'll be reselling them all.

The Gardner Minshew hoping the season starts soon.
