Fun reading for a rainy day, maybe. Anyway, you’ll see that some of the breaks are disappointing and some are really exciting. Partly the grade is a function of the product being better or worse than expected (see for example the last two Bowman Platinum breaks), partly it's how good a deal I get on the cases, and partly the grade reflects how lucky or unlucky I am with the big hits. Tomorrow I am scheduled to receive a single 12-box case of 2013 Bowman Chrome, and I hope to start busting Tuesday night.

I will be listing out all numbered cards, relics, and autos, and will attempt to grade the break on a box by box basis. I invite you to stop by this thread, help me with the grading, and contribute to the discussion. I sleeve, clean, and sort as I go, but it's just one case, so I expect to finish Wednesday at the latest. Please don't expect me to respond to trade requests. I'm really not a trader, and I have all I can deal with just trying to bust these boxes in my spare moments. The cards I decide not to keep will eventually end up either at a popular auction house, or at a popular consignment website.

To heighten interest in the break, I have organized the following contest. All contest information (including results) will be in this thread, and entries need to be posted here as well. This keeps the Message Board tidy.

[CONTEST CLOSES AT 7PM Eastern TUESDAY]

CONTEST DESCRIPTION: I will be giving away $50 in cards from my portfolio (instructions for selecting them will be provided via PM) to the contest winner. To participate, you need to guess the Box # and Pack # associated with the lowest print-run serial numbered card appearing during the break (i.e., the “rarest” numbered card). If there is a tie for lowest numbered card (e.g., two cards numbered /5), the winner will be the one I pull LAST. I consider a printing plate to have a print run of 4 despite the serial number. There are 12 boxes and 18 packs each, so there are 216 packs from which to select. Whoever picks closest to the exact pack containing the lowest numbered card is the winner. If the winner happened to guess the EXACT PACK, the prize will be doubled. To break ties, you must also guess the combined number of pitches by STARTERS in the Cincy-Pittsburgh game on Tuesday night. Closest wins, with any further tiebreak going to the earlier poster. All entries must be posted by Tuesday at 7PM Eastern. I settle all disputes.

A valid entry, therefore, will look something like this:

"Box #6, Pack #17, 150 pitches"

[CONTEST CLOSES 7PM EASTERN TUESDAY]

Make sense? Okay, good luck!

Nathan
Box #4, Pack # 11, Total Pitches 144. Thanks for the contest.

[CONTEST CLOSED]

No further entries accepted. I start busting soon. Good luck, everyone!
There were 35 entries total. Two were invalid (one involved pack #20, one involved box #15), and two contestants picked the exact same pack, box, and # of pitches, so there are really just 32 people still in the running. Box #8 was the most popular, with 6 entries, followed by Box #4 (5 entries). Boxes #7, #9, and #11 had four entries each, #6 and #10 had three each, and only one person each picked box #s 1, 2, and 3. Nobody picked Box #12 -- a surprise to me! IMO, this gives a big edge to the person who picked Box #11, Pack #15, basically 22 winning packs at the end of the break.

Good luck!
Box #1

Brandon Maurer Blue Refractor /250
Jorge Soler Mini Blue Refractor /250
Shelby Miller Purple Refractor /199
Danry Vasquez Gold Refractor /50
Yeison Asencio Prospect Auto
Tyler Glasnow Orange Refractor Prospect Auto /25 (Pack #13)

Grade: A+
Comments: Holy moley. I think I’ve found the case hit; might as well sell the rest! This is a pretty bad box if not for the huge orange auto. As it is, I’m almost certain to get value out of this case, for which I overpaid, frankly ($740 delivered). The hit aside, I’m loving all the color & variety: orange, blue, purple, gold, mini, base refractor, mini refractor, sapphire, and base. Lots of great stuff to enjoy. Incidentally, the orange /25 was pulled in Pack #13, so that’s the pack to beat right now, and the contestant who picked #2/#2 is the current leader. I think I have a decent shot at another orange or better before I’m done, but maybe not.

Sorry for the lousy phone photo. I'm watching the ball game and don't want to waddle down to the basement to use the scanner.

Box #2

Derek Holland Blue Refractor /250
Michael Wacha Purple Refractor /199
Nik Turley Prospect Auto

Grade: D
Comments: Not as much color, not as much variety (no minis), but I’m expecting several boxes like this. It could be worse, actually.

Box #3

Viosergy Rosa Purple Refractor /199
Lance Lynn Red Refractor /5
Lance McCullers Prospect Auto Redemption (Pack #7)
Carlos Tocci Prospect Refractor Auto /500

Grade: D+
Comments: I love red refractors, and this one goes straight in the PC. I have to admit that it’s a $20 card at best, however. We have a new contest leader! Esa0315 predicted Box #3, Pack #5, and it’s going to be pretty hard to expect another red refractor or printing plate in the next 9 boxes.

Wow - I just missed out on the contest. Good luck Nate. Best man on the whole board.
Great hits so far. Glasnow is a top tier prospect. Hope the rest of the break goes well. Nice hits on the gold refractors too.
Best part of this set is the nice clean on card blue marker autos. Still the best quality product on the market I think.
