how long have acetate sports cards been around? also does anybody remember their first acetate sports card? i notice they grade a little better than card stock.

I first became familiar with acetate cards with the 1998 Topps Tek set. I don't remember if there were any insert cards or other sets doing that prior to '98.

Since they are made out of plastic, as long as they don't crack odds are more likely corners and edges will be nice and sharp vs paper. It does seem like acetate cards can suffer more on surface grades, though I make that statement without hard data backing me up so take it for what its worth .
