Default Grading

Default Grading
What does everyone use for their default grading. I generally use 8.0, but I have seen others use 8.5. It doesn't make a huge deal, but I need an accurate assessment for my home owner's insurance rider. Any help would be great. Stay well and have a great night!! -Joe (& Joey)

For my organize, 8.5 means I pulled it from a pack. BV for modern cards defaults to 8.0 and 8.5 is not a different value at all. Cards I get in trade or did not pull myself, I try to be fair and the numbers are 'real' with a max at around 8.0. I don't mark anything as 'Mint' unless it has been professionally graded or is 'factory sealed', i.e. ITG Ultimate Memorabilia, ITG Superlative, Upper Deck Clear Cut, etc.

RE: Default Grading
I go with 8.0, but I must admit I haven't given it a ton of thought. It's really because it's the default suggested by the site.

The only time I go above is when my card is graded.

I am the same way when it comes to "mint." If it isn't graded mint, then it isn't mint. That's my opinion at least. I should have looked at the conditional value and saw that there is no $ difference between 8.0 and 8.5. Thanks for replying. Stay well and have a great day!! -Joe (& Joey)

RE: Default Grading
I always used 8.0 as the absolute max for raw cards. I'd try and be fair on the condition and would assign lower grades as needed of course. Graded cards got whatever grade they were assigned and the only time I ever went above 8.
