Be careful what you wish for
Just saw a guy on Sportscard Nonsense who said he sent in a CJ Stroud silver prizm RC for a "damage replacement" - seriously, the smallest dimple on an otherwise perfect card - and got it back in six days.

Granted, it's the Internet and that's a particularly dooshy site, so there's about a 94 percent chance he's lying, but I have sooooo many problems with this if it's true.

First of all, the card wasn't damaged. Second of all, no wonder ther rest of us wait 2+ years for sparkle packs. Third, how and why did he get his replacment in six days?

So yeah ... I'm ready for something else.

How do you think the modern DBN would have reacted had they been buying cards in 2017 and just about every Patrick Mahomes Prizm rookie had a dimple? Of course, the answer is that the DBN wasn't buying cards in 2017 and even if they were, they probably wouldn't have considered the Mahomes to be a big card since he didn't start as a rookie.

But that is one of the most important modern cards and just about every one of them came defective from the factory (admittedly, it has lowered the impact some since there are very few Mahomes Prizm rookies without the dimple)

Oddly, PSA graded several Mahomes rookies with the dimple as 10 Gem Mint before they stopped

If he really got the card back after 6 days it probably was Panini took one look at it and sent it back as not being defective and DBN bro couldn't figure out it was the exact same card.

I've never complained about cards coming out dinged or with scratches - but then I bought cards back in the 1980s where you'd get cards that were extremely off center or printer errors all of the time

Of course, Topps and Panini apparently use the same printer which might explain why both companies had had so many cards come out with printing errors lately

I've always been OK with flaws like off-centering and surface "imperfections" like the dimple.

Two things I can't stand ... chipping and dinged corners.

Reason being, if a card is off-centered, I know that was the factory's defect.

(And if it's just PC or a set filler I can often get it cheaper.)

But if it has a dinged corner, and I don't catch it and buy it on DBay, I'm left wondering if the seller was just careless.

(Vice versa - I wouldn't sell or trade a card with a dinged corner because I don't want them thinking the same of me.)

Chipping is so rampant on basically any Panini card with a colored border, it drives me nuts.

Most DBN Case Breaker Bro sellers also just shred that bottom right or left corner when slamming them into penny sleeves so it makes it twice as noticeable.

It's gotten so bad that I will pretty much stay away from any product that has colored borders, especially on the backs of cards.

If I were these companies I would have every card with at least a quarter inch of white border on the fronts and backs to mitigate this.

The Flood of careless sellers/breakers is killing me because the "dimples" are caused by them as well!

Agreed.

I actually cringe when I watch them slam a chipped Panini mem card into a sleeve, just whiting out the bottom border and corner.

Then the Case Breaker Bro says, "I wonder if that will gem?"

Gem = Not a Verb

Another big Fanatics product, another biggest Superfactor in the product being pulled by a breaker in China before the product officially hits the shelves.

Eventually people are going to catch on

Or maybe they already should - there are frequent ads here now for the Fanatics Sports Book which gives you Fan Cash for every bet (win or lose) - because buying into case breaks and opening boxes of cards isn't gambling enough for some people - there is no telling how low that company will sink? Bet on the Texans to win and win a C.J. Stroud card? I could totally see that sort of thing happening.

I was already pretty disgusted with Fanatopps - but them going into Sportsbooks and putting their ads all over the place really is obnoxious. Marrying sports betting and cards seems inevitable since Fanatics is now involved with both (and yes, that means that MLB, the NFL, and the NBA and the players associations are climbing into bed with an actual gambling company - this is not going to end well)

Mark my words - eventually there will just be "packs" of scratcher-like cards where you can win points, actual cards, balls, jerseys, helmets, etc.

No actual cards themselves (other than maybe team logos or something), just direct gambling.

It used to be that you spent $100 on a hobby box and probably got at worst $50 worth of value and at best, $500 or so worth of value

Now you spend $600 on a hobby box and get at worst $50 worth of value and at best $500 worth of value.

Cards have become a casino - the house always wins.

What you heard is actually something I've been hearing a lot lately. I have a buddy who just got a 6 day turnaround for a replacement for just being off center. Apparently they've been focusing on customer service and redemptions/replacements to get rid of the back log. People actually answer the phone now when you call too. They're giving out sparkle packs if they don't have the redemptions. Seems like they're actually making things a lot better. I'm sending in soon for the same thing-a dimple on an otherwise perfect card. I'll post how it goes.
ID VIKESRULE on most other trade sites. Don't care about BV if the deal is right.

I wonder what the Great New Collectors would have done if they were around when the infamous 2017 Patrick Mahomes Prizm saucer took place?

Well, probably nothing, Mahomes wasn't even starting then
