Especially since Trammell got in ... their career numbers + awards are almost identical.

RE: 2 baseman
I'd take Rod Carew by a slim margin over Joe Morgan and Rogers Hornsby.
I collect Hall of Fame baseball player cards and cards of current and retired superstars.

RE: 2 baseman
Posted this earlier this year but it bears repeating ...

If you guys want a real debate, check out Alan Trammell and Lou Whitaker

Trammell - in the Hall of Fame

20 seasons, all with Tigers - so no ballpark discrepancies, 1977-1996
2,293 games played
.285 BA
2,365 hits
185 HR
1,003 RBI
6X All-Star
1984 World Series MVP
4X Gold Glove Award
3X Silver Slugger

Whitaker - not in the Hall of Fame

19 seasons, all with Tigers - so no ballpark discrepancies, 1977-1995
2,390 games played
.276 BA
2,369 hits
244 HR
1,084 RBI
5X All-Star
1978 AL Rookie of the Year
3X Gold Glove Award
4X Silver Slugger

I mean, it's almost eerie how nearly identical their careers were.

I guess Trammell's World Series MVP trumps Whitaker's ROY award, but they're identical in terms of total numbers of Silver Sluggers and Gold Gloves.

Trammell made the All-Star Game one extra time, but other than a nine-point difference in batting average in Trammell's favor, Whitaker pretty much outslugged him in every category.

Basically, to say one deserves it over the other really doesn't make sense at all.

I say both or neither, and since Tram is already in, it's time to let Sweet Lou in as well.

RE: 2 baseman
Since you're debating similar teammates, here's another comparison as we hijack this thread:

Jim Rice - in the Hall of Fame
16 seasons with Red Sox, 1974-1989

2,089 games played
.298 BA
2,452 hits
382 HR
1,451 RBI
8x All-Star
1978 AL MVP (6x top 5 in voting)
4X Gold Glove Award
2X Silver Slugger

Dwight Evans - not in the Hall of fame
19 seasons with Red Sox, 1 season with Orioles, 1972-1991

2,606 games played
.272 BA
2,446 hits
385 HR
1,384 RBI
3x All-Star
(2x top 5 in AL MVP voting)
8X Gold Glove Award
2X Silver Slugger

Pretty similar stats although Dewey has a couple more years. Rice has the edge in All-Star & MVP and Dewey has it in Gold Gloves.
I collect Hall of Fame baseball player cards and cards of current and retired superstars.

RE: 2 baseman
Yep, it's crazy.

The only thing I can think of is how certain players are perceived by their teammates or the media or something?

(Not that I'm aware of any negativity regarding any of those four guys)

Because one of the great things about baseball is that numbers are pretty straightforward and easy to compare.
