In the world of comics, there are often different timelines that allow for the same hero to live, die and do all sorts of different things. 2016 Topps Bunt Baseball is sort of like the baseball card equivalent of a multiverse. It takes the branding of the app that lives in the digital realm and makes it a physical set.

2016-Topps-Bunt-Feature

This isn’t a high-end release by any means. From a price tag standpoint, it compares to Opening Day. Rather than focusing on hits, it’s more about blending the worlds of physical and digital baseball cards. Although these are real cards, there are code cards that bring in a separate digital element with its own set to build.

Base Set

2016 Topps Bunt Baseball Base

The 2016 Topps Bunt Baseball base set comes with a new design that is nothing like the flagship design. Therefore, it’s nothing like the digital base set either. It comes with 200 cards, a mix of vets and rookies.

Parallels include Platinum (/99), Topaz (/50), Crimson (1/1) and hobby-exclusive Printing Plates.

Inserts

2016 Topps Bunt Moon Shots

Every other pack of 2016 Topps Bunt Baseball includes an insert card. These feature some themes and designs that were popular in the app.

Programs create a card with a design that evokes the look of something you’d grab from a vendor while walking through the front gates of the ballpark. Unique Unis showcases jerseys worn during special games. Light Force (25 cards) is about top players and a distinct spacey design. Future of the Franchise (15 cards) spotlights young players.

Just like the app, 2016 Topps Bunt Baseball has a couple of insert sets that are tough pulls. Moon Shots are serial-numbered to 50 and look at 25 players known for their home runs. Stadium Heritage is even rarer. Numbered to 25 copies each, the 15-card set feature some of the greatest players ever for a franchise cast against a backdrop of the stadium the called home.

Title Town is one of the elements in the product that has both physical and digital elements. Each of the ten cards feature three players from the same team who won at least one World Series title. Card backs have a code that can be entered to unlock a digital version of the card. Base Title Town cards are numbered to 75. There are also Amber (/50) and Platinum (1/1) parallels.

While autographs aren’t the focus of 2016 Topps Bunt Baseball, there are signed cards lurking in packs. They can also be won by participating in contests within the app connected to the product.

Loot Cards

Loot cards are where the physical and digital realms really collide. Inserted 1:3 packs, they’re code cards that unlock a pack of digital cards. This is like a set within the set with a digital version of the base set.

Each digital pack has ten cards, one of which is a Topaz parallel. Platinum parallels are also available at a rate of 1:10 digital packs.

There are also some digital-only inserts. Mystery Rookies (30 cards, 1:12 digital packs) feature first-year standouts and call-ups. Young Stars (30 cards, 1:2) take a similar approach but doesn’t limit its checklist to rookies. Rampage (20 cards, 1:12) features top players who can be beasts on the field. Rampage cards have a 3x boost in contests played with the cards in the app.

Since the early days of the app, Bunt has featured a fantasy element that lets users play their digital cards to score points and enter contests. Cards found in Loot packs here can be used in exclusive contests that could result in physical autograph cards and complete autograph sets.
