2 great BGS shows this weekend, opposite coasts.

On May 2 and 3, BGS will be on-site at the Tri-Star show in San Fran and the 50th Philly Non-Sport show in Allentown, PA. The Philly non-sport show will feature dealers specializing in non-sport cards as well as some great sketch card artists like Sean Pence, Brian Kong and NAR! Card manufacturers like Breygent and Rittenhouse will also be in attendance. Beckett Grading will be on-site to answer questions about grading and to take your submissions. We will have a special price for your submission, available only at the show! Come drop off your submission, sports and non-sports cards, and receive exclusive pricing found nowhere else!

For more information about the show, please visit: http://www.nonsportupdate.com/philly.htm

The Tri-Star 13th annual San Fran show will be held at the Cow Palace in San Francisco May 1, 2 and 3. Beckett Grading will be on-site offering Graded Card Review, Raw Card Review and taking submissions. If you are on the west coast, this is a great opportunity to take advantage of some great deals and pricing.

Fix my slab!

Minor scratches and rub marks on a graded card holder are not a big deal to most collectors and dealers. Minor markings to the plastic holder come from everyday handling. Some cards that are part of a traveling dealer’s inventory can show more marks because of the traveling and shipping but even with the weekend travel all over the country, the scratches and marks are minor at best.

To the other extreme, we have seen graded cards sent back to us that were in fires, floods and “accidents.” We actually did have a card that had been in a fire and the edges of the holder had melted and deformed. Looked somewhat like melting ice.

Some cards find their way underneath car tires and in front of screwdrivers, both not recommended for the preservation of your collection.

While there are people out there that claim to use different products and chemicals to remove or lighten scratches and marks, we do not recommend using any type of chemical on the plastic. Petroleum-based products like the water displacing WD-40 can actually eat the plastic.

What about those price stickers? When selling a graded card, a graded card “bag” like the one made by UltraPro is a great idea. These bags are similar to team bag with the adhesive strip. By keeping graded cards in these bags, you can not only place pricing stickers on the bag without touching the graded case, but you also minimize the amount of scratches and marks from everyday handling. The bags sit snug and are clear so they do not distract from the holder and card. Many times you may not even notice it is in a bag at first glance.

If you feel like you just need to have the card reslabbed, there is a solution for that. BGS will gladly recase a card for you for only $5.00. This can be done by sending the card to us or in-person at the National convention each year.

We suggest sending a card for reslab in with your next submission to save on shipping cost.

If you do send in a card for reslab with your submission, be sure to mark on the submission form you want the card recased.

Ask BGS

Q: Will I be notified when my order arrives at the BGS facility?

A: Yes, we will send an email address to the address listed on your submission form once your order is invoiced.  However, please keep in mind that invoicing does not always take place immediately after the order is received.  45 business day orders can take up to 4 weeks to invoice, and 20 day orders can take a week to 10 days.  All orders are backdated during the invoicing process so that no customer waits longer than their chosen business day turnaround time.  BGS always suggests purchasing delivery confirmation when shipping an order to us so that the customer can see exactly what day their order arrived at our facility.
