2017 Donruss Optic Baseball Variations Gallery
If you’re familiar with how things worked in 2017 Donruss Baseball, the 2017 Donruss Optic Baseball variations shouldn’t be tough to spot. Even if this is a new brand, they’re not tough to spot.
Still, let’s take a look and make it even easier.
Spotting 2017 Donruss Optic Baseball Variations
For starters, the 2017 Donruss Optic Baseball variations checklist is small. Panini released the list in advance, showing just five players. Included are current stars Mike Trout, Kris Bryant, Corey Seager and Anthony Rizzo. Rounding things out is Mickey Mantle. Optic is the first product with pack-inserted Mantle cards in several years, kicking off his family’s exclusive deal with Panini.
The Mantle variation also has a different photo, making it even more distinct.
To spot 2017 Donruss Optic Baseball variations from the front, it’s all in the name. Or rather, the name isn’t there. Instead, it’s either a nickname or an award.
Parallels
Parallels play a big part in 2017 Donruss Optic Baseball. The variations are no different. In addition to the regular versions of the cards, each has the following color-based parallels:
• Blue – /149
• Red – /99
• Gold – /10
• Green – /5
• Gold Vinyl – 1/1
Want to spot them even faster while you’re busting packs? Card backs could also be an easy giveaway. Based on at least one of the cards, Mantle, the color of the base card back is different from the variation. The regular card has a white motif around the outside and grey in the middle. The border on the reverse of the variation is blue with a white inner area.

Who cares about “Generic” baseball cards ???
Weak.
I have noticed the back of some of the cards in the base are darker than the others.
comments please
Why doesn’t Beckett have pricing for these cards ?
@Jason They are priced. To find them, they’re in the main base set section. The regular card has a ‘A’ added to the number to show difference. Variations have ‘B’ (and C,D, etc. in some products if a player has multiple variations).
So for 2017 Optic, the base Mickey Mantle card is listed as #165A while the variations is #165B.

@Ryan I understand the A, B in regards to short prints but there is only listings for the 2017 donruss base set and no listings for Donruss Optic
@Jason — Are you referring to online or in the magazine. I do see them when I look them up online.
