2020-21 Upper Deck Ice Hockey Sees Clearly
Update (October 18,2021): 2020-21 Upper Deck Ice Hockey has been cancelled.
Acetate is the star once again in 2020-21 Upper Deck Ice Hockey. Whether it’s Rookie Cards, Autographs or all points in between, the plastic-style stock gives cards a distinct look.
Hobby boxes have a couple of hits, a couple of rookies, a handful of inserts and more.
2020-21 Upper Deck Ice Hockey Checklist Overview
Overall, the full 2020-21 Upper Deck Ice Hockey base set has 200 cards. However, it’s more challenging than that.
The first half of the checklist, 65 veterans and 35 rookies, can be seen as the main part. They the most common. They also have several parallels:
- Green – (1 per pack)
- Orange – (1:6 packs)
- Lavender – (1:12 packs)
- Ice Blue – (1:60 packs)
- Royal Blue – /99
- Black – 1/1
Select cards also have hits-centric versions. Veterans have Jersey (1:60), Gold Patch (/15), White Snowflake Autographs (1:240) and Red Autographs (/5). For rookies, there’s the same mix but with different ratios: Jersey (1:30), Gold Patch (/25), Winter Snowflake Autographs (1:60), Red Autographs (/5).
The back half of the set is reserved for the Ice Premieres subset, which combine to fall two per box. These are all serial numbered but to different amounts:
- #101-130 – /1299
- #131-160 – /999
- #161-180 – /499
- #181-190 – /249
- #191-200 – /99
The only standard parallels are one-of-one Black versions. Jersey versions are 1:30 packs while autographs are numbered to either 199 or 99, depending on the player. There are also Ice Premiere Auto Patch (/10) and Auto Patch Black (1/1) versions.
Inserts and Autographs
The 2020-21 Ice checklist has a handful of insert sets that integrate both the namesake theme and acetate.
Sub Zero returns for another year with similar Stars (1:38) and Rookies (/799 or /499) versions. Both have tough Gold parallels as well (Stars /8, Rookies /24). Rookies have Blue (1:96) and Green Autographs (/25) as well. Finally, there are also Sub Zero Rookie Variants, which land 1:960 packs.
Each hobby box has one Sub Zero card.
Lethal Lines (1:6.67) is a 30-card set. However, it’s done as a series of ten different puzzles. Each has three cards that fit together to create some of the NHL’s best lineups.
Ice Rink Favorites (1:10) is all about star players.
Electric Ice (/50), another star-studded set, is an insert debut.
Ice Premieres Retro (/149) round out the product’s regular inserts.
When it comes to signatures, complimentary Fire & Ice are back. Done as separate Fire and Ice versions, each lands at a rate of 1:432 packs.
Ice Box is a new autograph insert in 2020-21 Upper Deck Ice Hockey. Like Sub Zero, rookies and vets are on the checklist, but at varying quantities. Ice Box Rookies are in two tiers, numbered to 199 and 99. Red parallels have 25 or 10 copies. The multi-level approach is similar with current stars, which come with 99 or 25 copies. Red versions are numbered to 5.
More Ink is available in Glacial Graphs (1:150) and Signature Swatches (1:288), both of which have Black parallels with varying production numbers.
Exquisite Collection
2020-21 Upper Deck Ice is the second stop for 2020-21 Exquisite Collection Hockey cards. The first came in Black Diamond.
Building on the set within a set, there’s a handful of card types added to the overall Exquisite checklist.
Exquisite Collection Rookies (/399 and /299) are the only ones in Ice that don’t have autographs. Parallels for these are available in Gold (/20) and Black (1/1).
Rookie Signatures also come with a tiered approach to print runs with cards having either 199 or 99 copies. Gold (/25) and Black (1/1) parallels can also be found here.
Veterans are part of the Material Signatures checklist. Base versions have varying print runs as well as Gold (/5) and Black (1/1) parallels.
Taking it to Exquisite’s past are a pair of retro-themed sets: 2003-04 Rookie Auto Patch (/25) and 2009-10 Rookie Auto (/99).
