2015 Topps WWE Undisputed Fistographs Bruno Sammartino

By Ryan Cracknell | Hobby Editor

As far as wrestling cards go, 2015 Topps WWE Undisputed is a new type of product. Until now, the vast majority of WWE sets have been on the low-end of the hobby. Only a couple of brands have ventured into a more upscale feel. But even then, Topps Chrome and Platinum are about as fancy as it gets.

That’s great for many types of collectors. But in the last decade, high-end has taken a more prominent role in the hobby as a whole and WWE products have yet to fully embrace it. Until now.

Here are five firsts for 2015 Topps WWE Undisputed as it applies to wrestling cards.

First Hit-Per-Pack WWE Product

When you think about it and look at a lot of the products from the four biggest sports, it’s hard to believe it has taken this long for WWE to go the hit-per-pack route. It’s not just a hit either. Every pack of 2015 Topps WWE Undisputed has an autograph. And that’s the major selling point of the product.

The Leaf Originals Wrestling line has delivered single-pack boxes that only have autographs but this is the first product with more than one pack per box to have an autograph every time.

First WWE Fistographs

We’ve seen Fistographs in a few different UFC products. Topps has done similar hand print cards in baseball and football as well. But not WWE.

Fistographs not only come with an autograph, but an inked fist print as well. Think of it as taking a thumbprint, only much bigger and with a different part of the hand.

First Topps WWE Cut Signatures

Cut signatures have become a cherry of sorts in a lot of products. They make regular appearances in other sports but they’re usually very limited in any given product. This is the first time Topps and WWE have teamed up to deliver cuts  to create new autograph cards of deceased wrestlers. A couple of them had signed cards prior to passing away but some do not. And that leads us to…

First Junkyard Dog Autograph Card

Even before he became an icon with the WWF in the 1980s, Junkyard Dog was a superstar on the regional wrestling scene. His charisma and power made him a fan favorite with kids and adults. Tragically, he passed away in a car accident in 1998. Junkyard Dog’s cut signature card in 2015 Topps WWE Undisputed represents the first time his autograph has appeared on a card. It’s a one-of-one, so it’s not going to make its way into many collections. But it’s out there.

First Topps Pete Rose Autograph Card

When you get banned from MLB you’re not going to have the chance to appear in many products released by the lone card manufacturer to have a deal with the league. But this isn’t a baseball set and Topps was finally able to include a Pete Rose autograph in one of their products.
