5 Kwame Brown Cards that Bring All The Smoke
I jokingly posted on Twitter yesterday that I was going to drop a Top 5 Kwame Brown cards list today. It was said in jest, however, after looking at his Beckett stats, there are enough cards to actually make this happen. So, here are 5 Kwame Brown Cards that Bring All The Smoke.
#1 2001-02 Fleer Marquee We’re Number One Memorabilia #6A Kwame Brown
I’m a sucker for die-cuts and the ironic, so this die-cut number one had to tip off the list. A tough pull from the early 2000s with just a print run of 101, this is a must for any Kwame Brown collection. The obvious play of Brown being the #1 Overall selection in the 2001 NBA Draft is just a bonus. Beckett currently lists this card in the $10-$25 range, and today that feels like a steal.
#2 2006-07 Fleer Hot Prospects Double Team Memorabilia #BB Kobe Bryant/Kwame Brown
When collecting dual player cards the pairing is pivotal. Up until very recently, Kwame Brown was an also-ran on this card. However, after his response to the All the Smoke podcast, at least at the moment, this pairing is perfect. The week of Kobe’s HOF induction and Kwame goes all-in on Barnes and Jackson. Becket list this card /50 from $8-$20 but it has parallels to /25 and /10 as well. The ladder of which is currently available here.
#3 2001-02 Ultimate Collection #90 Kwame Brown AU RC
Card number three here on our countdown is can be found in 2001-02 Ultimate Collection. This Brown rookie auto had a print run of just 250, which, again, was low for the era. It’s not as flashy as the die-cut above, but it doesn’t have to be as it perfectly pictures Kwame with that infectious smile.
#4 2001-02 Upper Deck Honor Roll #121 Kwame Brown JSY RC/Kevin Garnett JSY
Here’s another dual player card of Kwame’s featuring another HOFer, this time Kevin Garnet. Again, this is just a matter of perfect timing as KG was inducted over the weekend alongside Bryant, and Brown clapped back at the “media”. A couple of our BMP dealers do have this available if you looking to add it to your collection.
#5 2001-02 Hoops Hot Prospects Hot Tandems #31 Vince Carter/Kwame Brown
I’m going to close the 5 Kwame Brown Cards that Bring All The Smoke list with one last dual player card. This time featuring Air Canada, Vince Carter. I like the usage of game-worn shorts and warm-up here. An early example of something out of the ordinary game-used materials for collectors.
Honorable Mention
Legend has it that in 2003-04 SP Game Used a quad Wizards jersey card out of /10 could be pulled. It featured Jerry Stackhouse, Juan Dixon, Kwame Brown, and Michael Jordan. While we do list this card in the database, finding one would be incredibly challenging. However, if one were to surface it would easily replace any of the cards listed above.
