Our Kid Collector of the Week feature focuses on one kid each week from around the country who is deeply involved with The Hobby. Most collectors got involved when they were young and have fond memories of their early years, so we highlight kids who are just getting their start in collecting.

Kid Collector of the Week is brought to you by Southern Hobby, who shares a passion for inspiring the next generation of card collectors.

This week’s Kid Collector is 11-year-old Cruise from Brentwood. His favorite card shop is Grand Slam Collectibles in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. You can follow him on Instagram @cruises_card_stop.

Name: Cruise

Favorite hobby shop: Grand Slam Collectibles in Murfreesboro, TN

BM: How did you get involved in the Hobby?

Cruise: I got involved because of my mom, when I was around 5 she started me with Disney cards and as I got older and started loving sports she introduced me to sports cards. She and my dad both collected when they were younger as well.

BM: How long have you been collecting?

Cruise: About 5 years

BM: What do you collect: baseball, basketball, hockey, football, non-sport, other?

Cruise: Basketball and football

BM: What is the first card you remember?

Cruise: First “good” card I remember pulling would be my Chris Paul auto.

BM: What is the best card you’ve ever pulled?

Cruise: A few Christmases ago I pulled a LeBron James 1/1 from a box of Ascension!

BM: What’s your dream card, the one you really really want right now?

Cruise: A LeBron James & Dwyane Wade Dual 1/1 Auto, or a LeBron James & Michael Jordan Dual Auto.

BM: What is something you think that the Hobby could be doing to get more kids your age involved?

Cruise: I think they are doing great. The hobby has been getting a lot of new people recently. I love going to the National Sports Collectors Convention and seeing my friends who are also collectors!

BM: What’s your favorite part about going to buy cards?

Cruise: My favorite part about going to buy cards is when I open a box or pack the mystery of what could be inside. And for singles what they have of the guys I am looking for or I PC.
