Breakers

By Chris Olds | Beckett Sports Card Monthly Editor

Our next issue of Beckett Sports Card Monthly will explore two subjects in one — and they are two subjects that are among the most-talked-about in today’s hobby.

One is group-breaking and the other is rookies.

In the issue, we’ll take a look at 10 of the hottest rookies of the past year in a few sports — and we’ll also take a look at 50 breakers as well as the trend itself.

As part of this package, we have another edition of 20 Questions where we want your input on it all.

I MOSTLY BREAK WITH BOOMO, YOU ALWAYS GET YOUR CARDS AND HE KEEPS IT REAL. FUN GUY TO HANG OUT WITH WHILE WAITING FOR BREAKS TOO FILL. GOOD GUY

  2. Gosports1 10 December, 2014 at 09:16

Great Video Camera. He takes time to Show you the Cards in the Pack,He doesn’t flash them quick, you get to see the Autos and Hit’s . Breaks at Crazy8sportscardbreak.com. He packs your cards neatly and securely.

  3. Ken Warner 10 December, 2014 at 12:14

Participated in many breaks with Big Texas Breaks. Erick G makes it always a fun time with giveaways and awesome breaks to boot. He creates a one to one room experience and goes out of his way to remember his buyers and add new breakers through word of mouth. Never have had a bad experience. #BTBCrew

  4. Brian 10 December, 2014 at 13:20

I’ve been doing case breaks with Beckett Auctions for awhile, and I love it. Andrew and Derek are great to watch and chat with, wonderful experience all the way around!

  5. james freschi 10 December, 2014 at 16:09

I havparticipated in many breaks. And my two favorite breakers are cards infinity and big Texas breaks. ..both are very honest and fair and they always ship the cards in a timely manner..

  6. John 10 December, 2014 at 16:11

Bob’s Sports Cards in Howell ,NJ is the best breaker hands down! He doesn’t do them all the time due to how busy his store is though! As a store owner he has so much respect for his buyers and has by far the best break prices!!

  7. Heath L 10 December, 2014 at 18:02

i have only have done breaks with Chris at Cardsinfinity , and i can tell you that it is always done profesionally , and my cards have always been shipped very fast and always in good condition. Also after researching pricing , he never tries to upcharge on his pricing per break. highly recommended !

  8. Dalsubfan 10 December, 2014 at 21:07

I’ve broken with 20+ different rooms. Cardsmithbreaks was my primary, but he ‘retired’. They all have different approaches, quirks and even problems. But it’s all about hanging online with friends and having a good time. If you are in it only for the cards, you need a better life.

  9. Mike Pereira 10 December, 2014 at 21:09

That question #5 can’t be right. I’ve seen my guy break case after case of stuff almost every night and that’s just one breaker. Do people really think that all those pro breakers and amateur ones only break 10% of the wax out there? These are the guys and girls that are buys cases of stuff while most people buy boxes and retail.

  10. NickM 10 December, 2014 at 21:42

guzman_15 and majorlp09 (both on ebay) are two of the breakers I have used frequently and recommend.

  11. travis batten 11 December, 2014 at 00:29

platinum card breaks is where its at come going the platinum card family you will always have a breaker that has your back. here at platt they never do you wrong like most breakers out there that just want to rob every dime from you and not take care of the cards you buy. i have got a very good rep with platt and they are my family for life i dont ever leave unhappy even if its a bad night they make it right. they always take the best care of your cards and wear gloves at all times and top loaded asap no waiting with platt its on time for your dime so come just in line and get your break on with the ########1 breakers on the planet yo.

  12. Tom 11 December, 2014 at 13:56

Be Careful On EBay, Some Breakers Don’t List There Rules. I Lost A Six Way Autograph Even Though I Had Three Players Out Of Six And Guy Randomed The Card Off. Not Listing Any Rules They Make Up There Own Rules. It Is Good To Try To Get Big Cards But, Card Companies Are Over Producing Cards And Making More Case Cards.

  13. Gregg Rothwell 11 December, 2014 at 14:04

i wish Beckett would stay more on top of pricing Current players when they are hot. Good example is Filip Forsberg. Just take his Ice Premeires for Example. The card has sold from BGS 10 over $700 down to lowest $222 that I’ve seen in over a month now. Beckett still lists the value of this card for $120- Not even close to what it should be valued at. This goes for many other cards, i have a laundry list.

  14. SoSoSo 11 December, 2014 at 14:06

RIPandList RIPandList RIPandList clap clap clap ….Dakota Boy bringing it strong each and every day… fast shipping, great video and entertaining.

  15. Mike 11 December, 2014 at 14:13

Platinum has come through 100% of the time. Don’t let this forum do the talking, as the breakers back their business up every single night, see it for your self! Mon-Friday 60+ in the room, with more giveaways than a donation center. Honestly best breaker I’ve ever been with. They treat you all like family… Heard it right here. PlatinumCardBreaks is the hot cheese sauce!

  16. john 11 December, 2014 at 14:33

solid poll, except i think you should replace the word “cool” with “legal” in the razz question. it’s a raffle, no way about it, and that is completely different from the inherent risk when you buy cards or enter a group break. also too easy for razzers to have schills fill up spots so they get your money and possibly the cards…

  17. DoinWheelies 11 December, 2014 at 14:38

Coltstrong rolls thru his breaks like none other! I also like Poppin Wax because he’s easy on the eyes

  18. Mark 11 December, 2014 at 14:44

Case Ripping Brian’s Cards is a great new website. And Brian is the best in the business.
    Go and check him out.

  19. brian 11 December, 2014 at 14:50

Lmao @ platinum and card collectorx. Neither one even has close to 100 different customers. Gotta love a rigged poll!

  20. Robert Orfield 11 December, 2014 at 14:54

Platinum card breaks is hands down the best group i have ever come across. There is no way any one else out there that takes better care of your cards. We are a family of breakers and i enjoy breaking with them.

  21. Kyle 11 December, 2014 at 15:06

It appears people got the concept of the voting wrong. Its not who do you think is the best breaker its ‘Who have you broken with’. Anyone who has been on sites like Cardwroldtv.com and Breakers.com know who the new guys are and can tell who is adding votes to jump to the top of the list.

Guys like Firehands, CCX, and FBB have been doing it for years and by far have the most active customer base while newer less known guys don’t.

When all other questions have 300 voters and the “who do you break with” has over 400….

  22. chrisolds 11 December, 2014 at 15:06

Just so you guys know … we asked you to name breakers if they were NOT on the ballot for No. 13.

  23. Kyle 11 December, 2014 at 15:16

I was just in Platinum Card Breaks room and he told people to go “shill” vote here and they will be rewarded.

    How pathetic can you get…

  24. MikeS 11 December, 2014 at 15:29

I have done numerous breaks with C.A.B.B., GREAT GUY & cheapiest anywhere. Just needs to be LIVE more. Also has quick shipping & includes bonus hits with each break. He always makes sure his customers gets hits. thanks & nice poll…

  25. Wilson A 11 December, 2014 at 15:29

I was just in Platinum Card Breaks room as well and he is telling everyone to go here and shill vote up his spot and only his spot as well as make fake alias to put up there. Makes me think twice about using him.

  26. gregscards247 11 December, 2014 at 15:33

I break with Layton Sports Cards, Rich takes care of his customers and he is always doing something new and fun to keep it interesting while keeping his prices the best on Earth for breaking. He still will do some of the less expensive breaks so and then mixers so everyone can get in. You don’t have to have a ton of money to enjoy breaking at Layton. I believe mixers are the future of group breaking it gives everyone a better chance of getting hits.

  27. Trippledink28 11 December, 2014 at 15:38

When it come to online breaking my go to guy is Firehand Sports Cards, dude pulls out the heat, 1/1, and breaks are always fun. Even if you don’t hit anything, its always fun and enjoyable. Did I mention lowest prices on the inter-web!!!!!!!! Just saying, unless its another SANDERS.

  28. xbignick 11 December, 2014 at 15:55

First, most of the names on the breaker list don’t even break. Coltstrong broke a box once or twice and that was over a year ago, and one of those was for himself. The Digital Man Cave just sits around and talks about gemmint1of1 and hockey all day and barely casts anymore. I don’t think he even carries wax. Ripandlist is listed twice on the poll…

Platinum #1? Please. There’s 15 people in his room a night and he’s new to the game.
Heck, go there once and actually do research. They sit there yelling for people to go write about them and vote for them all day. Don’t believe me? You can be in a giveaway if you do: http://i.imgur.com/PcTgJoV.png

If you’d link this in TheTruth17’s room he’d be #1 in seconds. Link it on blowout and Houdini would be. Same with Cardsinfinity for his room. Link it on eBay and Ripandlist and the other guys who do breaks there would soar to the top.

23 people voted that more than 90% of wax for a product is ripped in group breaks? Seriously? That shouldn’t even be an option in the poll. Anything over 40% shouldn’t be. There’s over 10k cases of 2014 Bowman Draft this year. If someone could track 20% of them through group breaks in the next calendar year I’d be impressed. Houdini (an excellent breaker by the way) is doing 100 cases in a single break! 100! No one does that. Yet somehow 9k cases of a single product that won’t be ripped in most rooms by March is going to be opened? Okay.

  29. chrisolds 11 December, 2014 at 16:09

The percentage question isn’t a reflection of reality — it’s available as a vote to see if some people *think* that’s a reality.

It’s merely a poll and that’s it. (Same goes for the other questions.)

  30. Bill 11 December, 2014 at 16:17

It cracks me up to see some of these guys vote for themselves over and over. Which doesn’t represent a true number. Some are probably legit, but others? Not so much. It’s hard to imagine that a breaker that constantly drops of the F Bomb on camera is popular with the folks that watch with their kids.

  31. John 11 December, 2014 at 16:23

TOP CUT BREAKS is the only place i go for group breaks. Lots of good high end breaks at great prices. TOP CUT BREAKS is honest and is a asset to the industry.

  32. joshedollaz 11 December, 2014 at 16:34

Platinum #1 hahaha so rigged! Firehands, Blowout, Cardsinfinity have more viewers/customers 5 minutes after they log in then platinum in a week. Firehands in my opinion is the best it’s always a good night chilling with Chad… And there’s db razzers on the list not even breakers? fix this poll

  33. Doug greenfield 11 December, 2014 at 16:53

Would like to give a HUGE shout out to Brad Parvin and topp cut breaks! Best breaker around and a nice guy! Highly recommend checking him out!

  34. Jonny5Cards 11 December, 2014 at 17:24

Love Breaking with CardCollectorX, KT Authentics, Big Hit Breaks, GV Sports Cards, RK Collectibles, and some of my buddies that are trying to get their breaks going… All great guys who run fun breaks of good products, check them out sometime if you haven’t!

  35. Matt DeJoode 11 December, 2014 at 18:20

The only breakers I use on a regular basis is Jvirts, Ozlander, and p_doubles. All three are very professional, ship cards in a safe and timely manner, and most of all FUN. These three breakers should be at the top of everyones list. Happy Collecting

  36. rob w 11 December, 2014 at 18:57

Ive only been doing group breaks for a bit over 2 years, and in the 2+years ive grown to trust a handful of breakers, BBB,BHB,KTAuthentics,Truth17,and Bateson, i have never had a bad break and everything has been shipped to me in pristine condition,.

  37. The One 11 December, 2014 at 19:40

    STICK WITH THE BEST. FIREHANDCARDS

CHAD DOESNT NEED TO TELL HIS ROOM TO FLOOD THIS PLACE AND VOTE FOR HIM LIKE ALOT OF THESE OTHER GUYS ARE DOING. HIS CUSTOMERS DO IT WITHOUT ASKING

  38. Grandpoobah 11 December, 2014 at 20:11

Firehand(Truth17), K2 Sportscards,UndefinedG20,Jvirts,KT Authentics, are the best and provide an entertaining evening. Give them a try!

  39. Patrick 11 December, 2014 at 22:21

I typically break with Ozlanders Breaks. Keith is a great guy all-around. He always has the most up-to-date products. He loves the hobby as much as those in his room. He is consistently on live and able communicates with those who follow him on a regular basis. Hands down the best breaker in the business!

  40. chrisolds 12 December, 2014 at 08:43

Just so you guys know … we only asked you to name breakers if they were NOT on the ballot for No. 13.

There’s no point in naming breakers who already appear there … but I have a feeling some of you still will.

  41. Break Addict 12 December, 2014 at 10:16

Damn, I would have liked to be in the poll :)

Breaking on just Sunday’s is rough and trying to build a base doing it part time is too. Large breaking sites with a group of different breakers has a great advantage but try out the little guy sometime :)

  42. David Dunn 12 December, 2014 at 10:56

BOOMO is the real deal. I enjoy his room because he brings entertainment value to the picture and he’s not in there giving you the car salesman pitch with some chick in the background saying “C’mon Guys spend your money! ” The gimmicks that some breakers come up with is ridiculous. If you haven’t been involved in a break before Boomo and Ants are the only way to go. If you’ve been breaking with someone else other than Boomo or Ants, Why?

  43. Michael B 12 December, 2014 at 12:04

Boomo is king. Hands down. He made breaking what it is now. I use Boomo and ANTS Sportscards for all my breaking needs. Best prices, why go anywhere else?! You can get a team for $19 when it is nearly 2x-3x the cost at other places?

    http://breakers.tv/boomo

  44. Steve A 12 December, 2014 at 12:20

I’ve tried at least 10 different breakers…I visit about 4 each month…but in comparison… ULTIMATE BOX BREAKS tops them all! TECHNOLOGY/BONUSES/CONSISTENCY/TRADING/AFFORDABILITY/FUN

  45. john mendiola 12 December, 2014 at 12:47

Legit and Fun to break with…Bobbyboxcutter, Ozlander, jonesysports, chuckssports,Dans cards, Ktauthenthics,Cardcollectorx,Pdoubles,Pfudd, kenffud,Bateson, bbh

  46. Michael Eubanks 12 December, 2014 at 13:19

I always keep an eye out for breaks by Guzman_15 (Nordy22 on blowout). I also us Majorlp09 quite often because he does half case breaks and you can get teams for fairly cheap.

  47. Shawn 12 December, 2014 at 15:05

I do most of my breaking with Boomo. He has been doing it longer than most anyone else on this list and has paved the way for many of them. His prices are consistently less than any other breaker. Cards are always handled with care, delivered exceptionally fast and he also gives away a ton of free stuff. Very rarely do you leave a break empty handed. Boomo knows the sports, the players and the cards. He will sell them for you online if you like or buy most anything himself. Last and most importantly – there is huge entertainment value.. it is PG-13 but it certainly beats watching someone bumble through a break in a monotone voice.

  48. Eric Hillebrand 12 December, 2014 at 22:25

Ripandlist , ryneM, and Majorlp are great breakers on eBay! Each one has a little different style in how the go about their breaks and I like that, All are super good guys, have never had a problem, receive cards in no time! Platinum Card Breaks are some super people as well! I read a few earlier comments and the ones I read hit the nail right on the head They really do take care of their customers, and emphasize care of your cards. A while back I was in a break of theirs’ and went hitless…. They sent me a few little consolation cards, nothing special but still a nice gesture. Well the cards end up getting damaged in shipping….. Again it wasn’t anything special so I wasn’t really concerned about it, but I thought I’d let them know so it wouldn’t happen when it was some high dollar cards… I let them know I wasnt looking for anything in return, just thought they should know. A couple days later they send me a care package with a BGS graded card, relics cards, and some other goodies. That’ll always stick with me, and that’s why I always keep them in mind when I think about getting in a break.

  49. steve hanski 12 December, 2014 at 23:27

people that say boomo is the godfather of groupbreaks doesnt know anything about how it started. back in 07 thetruth17 and a bunch of other guys like armyatc22, thecardboardkid, and others were the beginning group to do it.

  50. Andrew J. 12 December, 2014 at 23:29

BDCollectibles is good. They have a good selection of new and older products I don’t see anywhere else. They also give discounts on multiple box purchases!

  51. Amichai 13 December, 2014 at 01:37

I would like to give honorable mentions to the following breakers, its not so much the quantity but the quality that makes them qualify in my opinion.

    Jvirts
    BBXPRESS2
    Houdini
    Dthimesch
    MineraSportsCards
    Cardsinfinity

    Thanks

  52. Jeffrey M 13 December, 2014 at 08:57

Seriously–No BS–Rynem handles his breaking. NO drama. NO cuss words. Knows the product he’s breaking. Ships next day. Has fun. Protects all cards straight out of the pack.
I see names on the list that aren’t breakers at all. Some are nothing but drama or foul language the whole time they break. This should be about the hobby first and foremost, and that is what Rynem makes it. If you haven’t vistied his breaks, you must, and can at ebay.com/stores/rynembreaks

  53. Macn Nomo 13 December, 2014 at 10:02

Just wanted to say this turned into a ****storm, kinda looks like a blowout post. cardworldwide.com (CWW)

  54. jomhel01 13 December, 2014 at 10:47

Honest & Legit Breakers Ships fasttt

    Bobbyboxcutter,jonseysports,ozlander,pfudd,kenfudd,Danscards,pduobles,Ktauthentics,firehand,bateson,CCX,Jvirts

    Most trusted breakers

  55. Thomas Bombadil 14 December, 2014 at 02:50

I would recommend BD Collectibles on Breakers.tv. He’s a nice guy who genuinely cares about cards. I prefer to take my business to guys like that as opposed to your basic “casino” for gamblers. I’ve seen him hit a ton of big hits (lots of 1/1s – not just printing plates), so he’s a good place to go if you are just looking for a gamble. If you’re just a collector, he does send all the cards, which is cool. I have been hanging out in his room for about 9 months now, and he’s the #1 person I would recommend that wasn’t mentioned.
