Beckett Sports Card Hot / Cold – April 30, 2022
Welcome to another edition of Beckett Sports Card Hot/Cold where we take a fun and quick look at what’s hot and what’s not in the worlds of sports cards and sports.
The first round of the NBA playoffs is done and while there was lots of drama, there weren’t any upsets. Ja Morant and the Grizzlies might not be favorites at this point, but Ja Morant has been his highlight reel self. Leading Memphis over a Minnesota Timberwolves team with lots of talent, Morant has been making plenty of big plays and continuing to emerge as one of the league’s biggest superstars.
In the Eastern Conference, a lot of eyes are going to be on the Bucks and Celtics. Giannis Antetokounmpo has been his MVP-level self. For Boston, Jayson Tatum is following a similar path as Morant and proving to be an elite talent. His cards continue to see lots of movement.
In baseball, Mike Trout is back in familiar territory. He’s seemingly doing everything on the field right now, launching the ball, hitting for average and looking good in the field. Between the pandemic-shortened 2020 and injuries in 2021, it has been a while since Trout has had a chance to shine. It’s still early, but the Angels are looking good as a team. They currently have the second best record in the American League.
Next week is a big one for new releases with both 2022 Bowman Baseball and 2021 Panini National Treasures Football arriving in shops.
