Cheap Wax Wednesday Box Breaks: 2017 Elite Extra Edition Longevity Baseball
2017 Elite Extra Edition Baseball focuses on draft picks and international free agent signings. The base checklist features 196 cards although the numbering reaches #200. Each base card is limited to just 999 copies and there are 10 different parallels available for each card. These vary in rarity, with the most common being numbered to 200 copies all the way down to one-of-one.
There are some good names on the checklist if you are lucky enough to find them. Royce Lewis, Ronald Acuña Jr., Julio Rodriguez, Luis Robert, and Oneil Cruz all have autographs. If I find any of those guys it is going to be a good day.
This set is available in full hobby boxes that have five packs each with five-cards. Longevity boxes feature just two packs plus a box topper. Obviously, these are a more affordable option.

Box Topper Autograph:
Juan Jerez Autograph Status Die Cut Red (64/75)
Where is Jerez now? He is currently playing for the Bradenton Marauders, which is the Single-A affiliate of the Pirates. Last season he played 36 games between Rookie ball and Single-A.
Pack 1:
Greg Deichmann /999, Junio Tilien /999, A.J. Minter Triple Jersey Relic (187/399), Jake Junis Status Die Cut Green (2/49) & 150 Panini Points
Certainly not the start I wanted here. The points can be used on anything from the Panini Rewards site. Currently, the site shows that not a single Red Sox (my team) card available. I have absolutely no idea how they assign point values. The most expensive card currently available is 900 points — Zach Mettenberger. Make it make sense.
Pack 2:
M.J. Melendez /999, Adonis Medina /999, Jomar Reyes Future Threads /299, Algenis Vasquez Aspirations Orange (063/100) & Junio Tilien Autograph
Tilien is currently playing for the Brooklyn Cyclones, the High-A Mets affiliate. Also, his name is actually Junior, not Junio.
Lastly, the Melendez card back. You can see where each player was selected in the draft.
This wasn’t a great box. With just a couple of packs it is definitely long odds to pull one of the big names. But, you just never know.
