Topps readies promotional cards for National Sports Collectors Convention

The National Sports Collectors Convention is set for next month in Chicago and Topps will be there.
With a pair of promo card sets for collectors in attendance to chase.
Topps provided Beckett Media with its plans for the show on Thursday and they include a general wrapper redemption program as well as a Bowman Platinum redemption similar to last year. It will be a mix of retro and new styles to cater to perhaps two different audiences of collectors at the show.
Topps will produce an eight-card set in the style of 1952 Bowman with artwork by James Henry Smith of JHS Sketch Cards. He will produce four baseball images and four football images. Hometown heroes Ernie Banks and Frank Thomas get the nods, while Mike Trout and Bryce Harper will have the other two baseball cards. For football, there will be cards of Geno Smith, EJ Manuel, Tavon Austin and Eddie Lacy. There will be only 100 cards made for each player with one going to a collector who opens five packs of Topps or Bowman product at the company booth to get one of the cards.
The Bowman Platinum redemption will be a 25-card boxed set limited to just 499 serial-numbered copies. The first 100 collectors who open a box of 2013 Bowman Platinum at the company booth will receive a set. There will be autographed cards randomly placed into the sets.
