As a psychiatrist wannabe, I can say that Social Media has turned the world into a voyeristic society and there are a slew of folks that are happy to sit back and watch. Participation is too involved. As always the same 12-15 people post / respond while everyone else (for whatever personal reason) just sit back & read the comments. Whether they feel they don't have anything to contribute (which happens to me sometimes) or they don't have a free moment (which also happens to me at times) or they just like to watch.
No matter the reason, I'm thankful for this Beckett community. My holiday wish is for more participation on the forum, but I am very greatful that those who participate here are usually very personable, respectful of each other's opinions, humorous at times but serious about the Hobby.
For those in America that celebrate Thanksgiving ... have a happy one! For those Americans overseas serving the country, we're thankful to you and your families. For those in the Beckett community that are not from the USA, go grab a Turkey leg anyway and celebrate with us ... it's one of those non-religious, all inclusive, non-denominational holidays that celebrates humans and their thankfulness for other humans and our rich bounties of the earth.... but mostly Turkey ... yum! (... and Tofurkey for my wife & eldest daughter ... who claim they like it, but I don't believe they really do) Smile

I guess if I saved used tinfoil and used tea bags instead of old comic books and old baseball cards, the difference between a crazed hoarder and a savvy collector is in that inherent value.

Well, the wife is slicing pumpkin bread and the daughter is midway through her hour-long shower and I've been ready to travel for awhile so while I'm waiting to hit the road, I'm here.

This is the extent of my social media endeavors. I had a facebook account years ago when my then high school son had his account but I was disguised as a "hot babe" from Oceanside, California who shared the same birthdate as him so he immediately "friended" me. I never once posted but was privy to everything going on his his life that he refused to share with his "dumb old parents".

On the subject of people's willingness to post or not post, as a long-time DJ who hosts a weekly all-request show, I've learned that only one out of every thousand listeners will bother to call in. The majority are very satisfied just to listen. I worried years ago that I didn't have many listeners because I was only getting about 15 calls per 6 hour show and was told about that ratio. These days I'll get 75 - 100 calls per eight hour show and I no longer worry that no one is listening. When I get calls from other states across the country (and occasionally other countries) it really makes my day.

I wish everyone here in the Beckett community a Happy Thanksgiving Day and may your travels be safe and your time with family and loved ones be pleasant. I am thankful for the people I have come in contact with on this website and for making my hobby all that much enjoyable.
I collect Hall of Fame baseball player cards and cards of current and retired superstars.
